What will you be offered? The therapist provides brief and open-ended psychodynamic therapy to individuals or couples. This is a form of depth therapy which has a long and respected track record going back to Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung. This therapy recognises that we have a tendency to repeat aspects of behaviour even though we may want to change but might feel unable to. The relationship between client and therapist is important in psychodynamic therapy to work being undertaken so that painful situations in the present can be understood as having their roots in the past and can be worked through in a clearer and more helpful way. This insight can allow greater possibility of freedom of thought and action. Practicalities and Confidentiality If you would like to explore the possibility of embarking upon therapy we will normally offer you an assessment consultation to meet and explore your issues and decide whether you are able to work together. If you contract to work together you will normally be offered a regular session of 50 minutes weekly on either a short term or open-ended basis. The contract normally involves deciding the agreed day and time of sessions, the cost of the fee as well as arrangements for holidays, cancellations and methods of payment. Therapy is a confidential process between the client and the therapist. The therapeutic work of is supervised by a senior practitioner. Confidentiality can only be broken in serious circumstances e.g. when the life of the client or another is considered to be at risk. We have information and provide referral to other appropriate local therapy services. |
